After months of great anticipation, the Second Round of Summer Camp 2014 Artists have finally been announced! 2014 second round As if 3 nights of moe., and Umphrey’s isn’t enough, plus Bassnectar, TAB, Primus, YMSB, Lotus, EOTO, Keller… do I need to continue? How spoiled are we?! I spent some time going over the lineup and put together my thoughts on a few of the big name artists we’ll be seeing at Three Sister Park in May, and included videos I hope will get you excited to see these artists live! CLICK HERE TO READ CAMP COUNSELOR NICK’S PREVIEW OF THE TOP 8 LESSER KNOWN NAMES IN THE SECOND ROUND! Here are the highlights of the Second Round of Summer Camp 2014 Artists!

Zac Brown Band

A huge announcement! Perhaps one of the more mainstream bands to ever visit Three Sisters Park, this will be the first Summer Camp appearance for ZBB, who have won 3 Grammy Awards. A mix of country, southern rock, folk, and a bit of jam, the ZBB know how to put on a show. You won’t want to miss this international headlining touring act! ZBB fun fact(s): On July 14th, 2012, ZBB welcomed Gregg Allman to the stage at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, New Jersey for a pair of Allman Brother classics, Midnight Rider and One Way Out. ZBB have also shared the stage with the likes of John Mayer, Dave Matthews, John Fogerty, Jason Mraz, Jimmy Buffett, Robert Randolph, and of course – the headlines Zac Brown made last summer at the Lockn’ festival, performing an entire set with the String Cheese Incident and then sitting in with Further. Don’t be surprised to hear fun cover or two, as ZBB have been known to play anything from Metallica to Pink Floyd to Pearl Jam to Bill Withers to The Charlie Daniels Band. Check out this video showing off the wild ZBB  improvisational skills! Get ready Scampers! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oI6Q311G01U ZBB is also currently collaborating with Dave Grohl of The Foo Fighters for a 4 track EP, The Grohl Sessions Vol. 1.

Slightly Stoopid

After making consecutive appearances at Summer Camp in 2010 and 2011, Slightly Stoopid is back! Rising through the 90’s alongside Sublime, G. Love & Special Sauce, and 311, Slightly Stoopid has mastered their mixture of reggae, punk rock, psychedelic rock, dub, and blues. Co-founders Miles Doughty and Kyle McDonald lead the group with their profound musicianship as they both play guitar and bass in addition to their lead vocals. I’m a sucker for any band that is backed with horns, and Slightly Stoopid is no exception with their trumpet and saxophone adding the perfect compliment to their sound. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uo_strEFp_U Slightly Stoopid Fun Fact: Karl Denson, funky saxophone extraordinaire, joined Slightly Stoopid for their 2012 album Top of The World and toured with the band that summer. Denson should be a familiar face to Scampers as his band Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe is a 3 time Scamp alumni, appearing in 2013, 2011, and 2003.

Wolfgang Gartner

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdgXnBFUFU4 International DJ headliner Wolfgang Gartner will be making his first Summer Camp appearance this Memorial Day! A pioneer of the EDM scene, Wolfgang Gartner has headlined numerous festivals, including Electric Daisy, Coachella, Electric Forest, Camp Bisco, Ultra, and even a few in Australia and the UK. Check out his rendition of the 5th of Beethoven segued into “Illmerica”

Gramatik

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C56h08hMLnM For the third consecutive year, Gramatik is welcomed back to Summer Camp! Gramatik made a huge impression on me last year when I caught the Big Grizmatik collaboration last year in the Red Barn. Another DJ that can really feed on the energy of the crowd, EDM fans won’t want to miss Gramatik. Here’s the official music video for So Much for Love.

Figure

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SixCL65ldB0 A 2012 Summer Camp hit, Figure is back again! On the heavier side of EDM, Figure is known for his self-proclaimed “heavy bass music,” which might even be an understatement. With his music themed around monsters, there’s no mistaking his intentions of dropping the bass and putting on a true dubstep show.

UZ

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0YrYj2Q8oQ Another Scamp first-timer, UZ defines his genre of EDM as “REAL TRAP SHIT.” A mysterious DJ who is new to the scene (founded in 2012), UZ came to popularity through his successful SoundCloud page. Personally, UZ has quickly flied up the ranks of my favorite electronic artists with his raw ability to capture you into his rhythms and take you for a ride.

MiMOSA

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VK0taq5Qt_k After a 2 year Scamp hiatus, MiMOSA is back to Chilicothe for the 2nd time! As per his Facebook page, MiMOSA can be best described as “Blending sultry melodies with booming basslines, MiM0SA offers up an interesting and soulful take on the sounds of hip hop beats and dubstep.” Well, I’m definitely won over with his remix of the classic song Sandstorm.

KOAN Sound

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4-G-4Y0G0M&feature=kp A DJ duo from the United Kingdom, KOAN Sound is making their first appearance at Summer Camp this May. Described as “glitch hop,” KOAN Sound is known for their infusion of hip-hop and funk while successfully layered over their drum beats that are perfectly timed with their sudden silences, creating the “glitch hop” genre.

Nahko & Medicine for the People

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3zc5rEl_sA YES! Seeing these guys returning to Summer Camp seriously made my week. I can’t think of a better band that just simply makes you feel great when listening to them. The first time I saw them at a hole-in-the-wall bar in downtown La Crosse, Wisconsin changed my life of music forever. Frontman Nahko is everything you need out of a lead singer in a band – he’s down to Earth, full of love, and took the time to give everyone in the bar a great, big, sweaty hug after the show. With clear influences of Matisyahu, Xavier Rudd, and Michael Franti in their sound, Nahko & Medicine for the People has a funky reggae pop vibe to them that just makes you smile, dance, and sing along. One of the biggest stand-out moments in my musical life came when they started the show with a prayer that had a seamless transition into the start of the show. Maybe all of their songs are a form of prayer? Hmm. Take a listen and find out!
